Floor Care

FLOOR CARE DO’S AND DON’TS

Protect the Floor – Do not place rugs on the floor until one week after the finish has been applied. After one week, place mats at exterior doors, in front of sinks, refrigerators and in heavy traffic areas. Be aware that some rubber-backed rugs, foam-backed rugs and non-slip pads contain additives that may discolor the floor. Use felt pads and floor glides on chairs and other furniture.

Clean Regularly – Dust mop or vacuum the floor with a bristle head vacuum on a regular basis. Spills or dirt may require more than just mopping. Use finish manufacturer approved cleaner. Cleaners or detergents not designed for wood floors may contain harsh chemicals that can make floors lose gloss and beauty. Never use wax or silicone-based polish, paste wax, solvent-based cleaners, or pine-based.

Periodically Recoat – Your hardwood floor should be recoated when the original finish shows signs of wear, but before it has worn down to bare wood.

Long Term Floor Care – Maintain your indoor living conditions between 60° and 80° and 30% to 50% relative humidity. Looking for additional ideas on how to keep your floors looking great throughout the life of your floor? Click Here for our Long Term Floor Care Guide.
